The Successful Solution

The successful solution was to spread out and at the same time stay specialized.

We could no longer stay with just the small dealers. We had to find services we could provide to the larger one too.

By 1981 we had doubled our previous working area and had increased our points list to cover many of the east coast manufacturers.

With extra space to work with we implemented inventory programs with some of the manufacturers. We handle orders from dealers and keep all inventory records for the manufacturer.

New copycat businesses opened up. They tried to emulate our business. None of them have lasted very long. It looks much easier than it really is.

In 1984 Faye bought Larry’s interest in Vanco Warehouse, Inc., as well as Vanco Trucking Company. This was no great impact to the business since Larry had not been active in the running of the business.

Business continued to grow; we took on more space as it became available in our complex. Part of this growth was due to our consolidating services for the larger stores now. We either split truckloads or railcars with the larger dealers or we pooled solid loads for them and shipped directly to their facilities. This enabled us to get the smaller dealers shipments in even quicker than before.

In 1994 Faye decided the area Vanco was in was not too congested. The Facility we were in was not keeping up with our needs and it was time to move. The right piece of ground was secured and in September of 1995 we moved into our present facility. This one was built according to our needs and makes everyone’s job a lot easier.

The amount of freight revenue in 1998 equates to approximately $150 million dollars in retail furniture.

The new facility is in the new industrial area right by the I-215 freeway entrance/exit. We are easy to get to and from. We are only 5 minutes from the airport or downtown Salt Lake City.

With over 45,000 square feet in our new building we started taking on other furniture compatible products for storage and distribution. We make exceptional use of our 24-foot ceilings when 120 truckloads of telephone books hit us each September.
